Drop in UK Furniture Sale
The UK people are found making huge spending cuts this year leading to a low turnover by the leading retail stores in the country. There has been a sharp decline by 23 percent in the half-yearly pretax profit on furniture sale by the Homebase home-improvement chain

and Argos catalog stores dealing in custom and
fitted bedroom furniture due to reluctance amongst buyers to spend on furniture followed by discounts offered by the store to generate revenue. Six months pretax profit earned by the Home Retail Group Plc. owned company fell from 122.7 million pounds to 94.7 million pounds in last one year. Net income fell to 74.7 million pounds from 77.7 million pounds during this period whilst profit before interest and taxes at the Argos chain was down by 32 percent to 54.4 million pounds and Homebase’s profit dropped by 5.5 percent to 46.2 million pounds.
Boost Sale before Christmas:
Terry Duddy, the Chief Executive Officer of the UK-based retail store said that the company is now taking cautious steps for the Christmas to improve their profit figures. In addition to refurbish two-thirds of its Argos outlets in the next three years with different range of products including jewellary, consumer electronics displays etc., the retailer is also planning to offer bathroom installation services as well as sell bedroom furniture and flooring installation on a trial basis through its Homebase outlets.
